Hi, I’m Elaina Burt, proud founder of Charlie’s Chance, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit rooted in love, resilience, and the unforgettable legacy of my little cousin, Charlie Mae.
Diagnosed with a rare form of epilepsy as an infant, Charlie’s 8-year journey was one of courage, grace, and light. Her strength inspired everyone who knew her—and continues to inspire the work we do every day.
Charlie's Chance is more than a tribute to Charlie Mae; it’s a promise to carry forward her spirit by making a difference in the lives of epilepsy patients and families facing similar challenges—by educating our communities, supporting families, and creating real change.
🧠 Why Epilepsy Awareness Matters
Did you know over 50 million people around the world live with epilepsy? 1 in 10 people will experience a seizure in their lifetime, and 1 in 26 will be diagnosed with epilepsy.
Epilepsy is not rare. In fact, in the U.S. alone, more people live with epilepsy than with cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, multiple sclerosis, and cystic fibrosis—combined!
